We discussed about 12 items that we bring to island. We can get many things in island. So, we need the tool of getting water, foods and the tool of self-defense and house and clothes. We must not take some amusement. Human can be crazy if he or she live alone forever.
1, bottle 2, pot 3, gun/bullet ( lifetime supply ) 4, lighter 5, knife 6, chain-saw 7, toothbrushes/toothpaste ( life supply ) 8, rope 9, clothes 10, a TV 11, antiseptic 12, soap ( lifetime supply )
In this time, there are many things in Island. However, I do not know whether I can use them effectively or not. And maybe I cannot endure being alone.

The most useful approach to use in critically analyzing The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemmingway is Santiago as a Christ Figure. This is because I think to look for the connection of Christianity is like reading a riddle. I had not realized the relation of the hand until I took the NP lecture. There are many sentences which imply the Christ. It is really interesting. If people find own interests, people can read deeply. So I think this approach can be useful if people have interests.

Today's class was in bakayama!!!!! It was really good! First of all, we did presentation about Meiland with the sheets. Then, our group talked about system of learning. In Japanese high school, many students tend to study to enter the university. Are the three years of high school beneficial for us? Rab told about system of education in England. There are both good points and bad points respectively. I think, however, Japanese system's problems are very serious. What can we do...? It is really difficult. Anyway, today's bakayama class was very very very enjoyable :D!!!!

Today, we did P&D and made the presentation. I watched the Steve Jobs' speech. He did not read at all and the screen was very easy to understand. Almost all things in the screen are pictures and when there are some words, they are very concisely and I can understand within 5 minutes. I did the presentation in the class of law. There were many sentences. We remade it but we could not be like the Steve Jobs' presentation. It was very difficult to explain about topics only pictures. In the next class, we will have presentation by using the way. I will do my best.......X (

We practiced the P&D about meiland. I thought presentation was very difficult for me. When I did the presentation, I was not able to see the other people's eyes well. I watched the floor or I watched one person's eyes. The random watching is really difficult. On the other hand, when I listened to others presentation, I had to not only listen but also think about the presentation and find the question. It was very difficult and I could not ask. Anyway, I have to practice many times!! Practice and reflection are the best way of improving our skills, I think!

We learned about how to make the presentation. Before, it was very troublesome for me to make a presentation because we used Power Point and we had to use a memory stick and carry it. If we use google documents, however, we do not have to use them! It is very simple and very easy for me :) When we do presentation, it is useful. I want to make the most of today's technology.

ARW Blogging Assignment 5
The main characters in Old Man and the Sea are Santiago, a fisherman and Manolin, a boy who helps him. Three adjectives that describe Santiago are lonely, old, and kind. The reason of being lonely is that he does not have his wife or any his children. He usually speaks the boy only. And the reason why he is old is not only the real age but also his scars and his experiences. The everything about him is not new. Then, he is very kind of the boy. For example, he refused the boy's request of fishing with him because he thinks about the boy very well. Three adjectives that describe Manoline are kind, adult, and lucky. The boy is kind because he takes care of the old man well. The boy is adult because he can react to the old man's action. For example, the boy continued the conversation when the boy thought the old man lied. The boy is lucky because he has a lucky boat!

We talked about how to presentation. The three important things are content, structure, and delivery. I am very poor at delivery. When I stand in front of others, I feel very nervous. But I know that the lecture of people who can collect information and construct very well, but can not be good at delivery is really boring. So, I practice many times and want to overcome the weak point. And to get over this, it is very important to do eye contact and use body language effectively because these actions receive the people's attention. In the end, Thank you for reading my blog :D

The pieces of information I found in sources to use to support my thesis and topic sentence ideas for Essay 2 are as follows.
The supporting piece of evidence that I found for body paragraph 1 is a paraphrase from Lacey, Lose. "Lying Is Good For You". Forbes. 10. 24. 05, 9:00 AM ET http://www.forbes.com/2005/10/19/lying-dishonesty-psycology_cx_lr_common05_1024lie.html This sentence includes that lying keep health good. So I think it relates to that lying avoid making people sad.
The supporting piece of evidence that I found for body paragraph 2 is a paraphrase from
1, carby, eHow Member. "How to Know When Lying is a Good Thing". eHow. http://www.ehow.com/how_4836568_lying-good-thing.html
2, Marks, Psychiatry. " Is Lying Good for You?". on friday, August 14, 2009. http://markspsychiatry.com/is-lying-good-for-you/
They tell that lying make people happy and lying improve people's grade.
The supporting piece of evidence that I found tor body paragraph 3 is a paraphrase from Hamada, Sumio. Watashi no nakano Tasya, Watashi no Naritachi to Uso [Other Person In Me]. Kaneko Syobou, 1998. This supports my thesis because it says lying is essential to communicate with others.

We discussed about The desert survival problem.
My total score : 86
My group total score : 64
OH MY GOD! Both I and my group will die...!! I want to survive!! Well...I talk about the class. I am very surprised that cosmetic mirror is the most important thing and that a simple mirror can generate 5 to 7 million candle power of light. At first, our member discussed which way to go. However, we did not know the right spot of us. So we did not have to do that! We should have argued how we were realized by rescue and how we can survive until the rescue coming. I thought salt was important item but it is dangerous one because it require more water. Once I have mirror, I should think about the way of keeping the water. Thanks to the class, I feel that I can live longer :)

We talked about what order people help. At first, our members thought that we should help Mike Smith first because a strong person can pull many people at one time. However, we gave up this idea. We can not pull many people at one time because rope may be split. ( We were NOT able to realize that we can pull faster if there is the strong person!) Then, we discussed the turn with thinking about the age, the sex, and the career. It was very difficult to conclude it. In the class, I found the point of view that the old person spend much time but the young not enough. I have not ever thought that because I think people must help and respect the elder. The new idea is very fresh for me! Who is worth helping? Who should be given preference? They are VERY difficult to answer. I want to find the way that everybody can survive in such dangerous situations. In the class I can not find the idea of fast pulling. So I think that I have to continue to look for the solution by various way even if the situation is hopeless. We should not decide the order of the life, but find the way to help everyone effectively.

Today, we discussed videos and the following topic:
" Women are about 50% of human but women in the government are 10%.
What do you think about it?"
To do good discussion, we have to listen to other's ideas, see the speaker's face, and tell cleary and concisely. Leader plays a very important role and has to be good at concluding.
The second topic is really difficult. I realized the difference of ideas between men and women. If women make more effort, can women get the government job? It might be true, but it is not all the because of only 10%. Why are men's state higher than women's? Why are women expected to support men at home or in the society? Why is the women's salary lower than men's if they do the same work? Probably it is just because THEY ARE WOMEN. Women have to do movements more active to get oppotunities. I want society to be equal in the future even though it is really difficult to break the difference.

The shocking way is really dangerous. If we use that way, we might always pay attention to the meetings, but we might feel fear and we might think just about expressing our own ideas, so we might tend not to listen to other's ideas. We run effective meetings not by machine but by ourselves.
In the bad group discussion, people did what they wanted to do. Loud lady and offend lady continued to tell their own ideas and not listen to each other. Shy lady missed the chances to tell ideas and bored lady do not take part in the discussion! People in the discussion is selfish. When we do group discussion, we not only express our own ideas, but also listen to each other and think about the ideas. When someone tell ideas, others must listen to whole ideas, then comment about it if you want. We have to interact with each other in the group discussion.

We discussed the following topics in the class:
" What is a good discussion and what is a bad discussion."
" Japan should start teaching English (language) from the beginning of elementary school every day."
" The age of consent/adulthood should be 18 (or other age) in Japan."
The most difficult topic for me is the third one. Our group thought that 20 is ok and I think so because we do not know about society just after high school graduaion. If I work after high school graduation, however, I might not think so. It is strange that I work and pay tax but I can not vote. There are many different type of people in Japan. We can not accept all ideas but we must think constantly that what is the best. In the class, I think we can discuss the first and second topics somewhat, but we can not do the third one. The topic is very difficult to judge and very important for us.

The thesis statement I've chosen for Essay 1 is the following:
Group work is very helpful in developing other academic skills because in group work students can practice expressing own ideas, listning and speaking in English, and communicating with others.

Blogging Assignment 1 : How do "good" college teachers present information?"
According to Meiland, "good" college teachers present information in the following way. "In general, they present some information, in the sense of "what is currently believed." Yet they also spend much time talking about the basis on which this information is currently believed. In fact, a large part of college work consists of discussing and examining the basis of current beliefs." That is to say "good" college teachers always have questions about current beliefs and seek the good reasons. I agree with Meiland's opinion. Firstly, we tend to accept current beliefs without thinking. If they present some questions, however, we can get chance to think about it. Secondly, I think examining the basis of current beliefs and seeking the reasons is important. The belief might be wrong or we might misunderstand the beliefs. If we have good reasons, we can believes it stronger. Therefore, "good" college teachers present us the opportunity to think about things we consider common.
